Things You Should Never Ever Do on an Empty Stomach

It is rightly said, you are what you eat. But a study showed that what we eat creates an impact on our health, but it is also defined by whatever we allow our body to take in before and after having a meal.

Here are some habits that you need to give up, and some tips and tricks you need to follow on an empty stomach.

Coffee;

Any coffee, decaffeinated or not, can stimulate the secretion of the hormone “Gastrin” responsible for the secretion of gastric acid. If coffee is consumed on an empty stomach, it can promote GRED or Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease.

Oral anti-inflammatory drugs;

Never take Aspirin, Ibuprofen and other Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs), including Paracetamol on an empty stomach, because they are known for the side effects who can increase your gastrointestinal risks such as ulceration, bleeding, and perforation of the stomach or intestine, who are fatal. The advice of FDA is to take these NSAIDS with food, which can provide a cushioning effect to your stomach lining.

Tip: You don’t need to take a full course meal while you take the medicine, just go for smaller things such as a biscuit.

Alcohol;

Think twice before you start drinking alcohol on an empty stomach. When you do that, your body absorbs the alcohol faster. The rate of absorption becomes twice the average rate and it is roughly equivalent to injecting alcohol into your body.

Here is a tip for when you are in a social obligation to drink. Your option should be a non-carbonated drink because it will not get absorbed efficiently. And a great idea would be to eat a sandwich with the drink, especially one with butter.

Chewing gum;

Do you know how you can develop stomach ulcer? By chewing gum, in fact, when you start chewing it, a signal to the brain is sent by the chewing action that you are about to consume food, and in preparation, the stomach releases some gastric acid which can flood the stomach without balancing the effect of food. This is the reason for the stomach ulcers.

Tip: You can consume a chewing gum after the meal if you have craving for one and your option should be a sugar-free gum.

Going to bed;

It is not a good idea to go to bed hungry. The reason for this is that your levels of low glucose prevent your body from sleeping and this can lead to superficial or improper sleep. And when we wake up tired, the reason why we eat more on those days is that the insufficient sleep increases the secretion of hunger hormone.

Tip: Another thing which is not a good idea is shoving your stomach with lots of food. You should drink a glass of warm milk and honey to sleep soundly.

Shopping;

Shopping is a bad idea when you are hungry because hunger makes us delusional and you will end up buying more than you need to.

And this is not just limited to food according to a study by the University of Minnesota, this also makes us incompetent for non-food items. The reason why we are buying some unnecessary stuff when we are hungry is that our brain starts seeing things that are not crucial as very important.

Intensive training;

You will not burn out more calories if you think about working out extensively when you are hungry. The only thing you are going to lose is muscle loss. And due to the lack of energy, your efficiency will be decreased as well.

Tip: Before you start working out, you can opt for quick eats that are rich in carbohydrates.

Arguing;

When people are on an empty stomach, they are more irritable and they have a less tolerable level of anger, and this is because their blood sugar level is low. This is showed by researchers from Ohio State University.

These eight habits are the ones you should quit when you are on an empty stomach.
